Questions for Other Candidates
This page lists questions that I have for other candidates, based on their public statements, letters to the editor, and / or blog postings. Note: While you may find some tough questions here, you won't find any name-calling, or character assassinations, or unsupported allegations. I simply quote public statements or comments from other candidates, followed by my questions. Candidate Statement #1 In a series of lengthy online posts beginning on September 6, 2006, Doug Lambert explains something called the “Delphi Technique”, and states: “I believe that many Gilford committees have long been controlled through the use of the so-called "Delphi Method". In describing that method, Mr. Lambert explains that it was “developed by the RAND Corporation for the US. Department of Defense as a psychological warfare weapon in the 50s and 60s”, and further states that facilitators of the method are “well trained in psychological manipulation”. My questions: Specifically which Gilford committees do you believe are controlled by the Delphi Technique? When and where was the training in psychological manipulation held? Who attended this training, and more importantly, was it funded by the taxpayers? Candidate Statement #2 Quote from Terry Stewart posted online by Doug Lambert on 1/17/07, shortly after the public hearing on the school budget: "Let’s not forget the petitioners tactic of using the kids to get their way when stomping their feet and pouting doesn’t work. Quite frankly, if parents used their children this way, a legal child advocate would remove them from the environment!" My questions: Is this comment in reference to the football parents whose children spoke up at the public hearing to request reconsideration of funding for the football program? If not, who is it referencing? Do you believe these parents are unfit? If not, can you explain your statement? Candidate Statement #3 Quote from Terry Stewart posted online by Doug Lambert on 1/17/07: "I was asked why I did not attend the deliberative session and my answer was the same as to why I’m not attending the final public session. Who has any interest in attending a mob meeting with a bunch of spoiled sports that have proven they don’t play nice if you disagree with them? This is a very small group of a 100 or so people that receive money from the very budget they are going to add to at the public hearing." My questions: You are seeking election to a committee that holds at least two public sessions for the purpose of gathering public input. Could you tell us if this quote accurately reflects your feelings about accepting such input from Gilford taxpayers? If not, could you clarify your position? If elected to the budget committee, will you attend their public sessions? Candidate Statement #4 In letters to the editor – both online and in print –Doug Lambert and Terry Stewart have each charged that many of the other candidates for the budget committee will be "rubber stamps" or "water carriers". My questions: Can you state specifically which budget committee candidates you are referring to? Have either of you had any conversations with these candidates that led to your assertions? If so, when did those conversations occur, and what statements were made that led you to make this charge? If not, upon what basis have you made those charges? I will post other questions as other candidates begin to speak out on the issues. And please, feel free to submit your questions to me. Contact information is provided on the "Contact" page.
